I (heart) Newborn Babies

Over the past three weeks I had the pleasure of meeting two newborn babies. I love babies!!!

Two women gave birth to beautiful babies and I was so excited to meet them both. One woman, in Birmingham, Alabama, had been anticipating this day for years and couldn't wait to love and care for her new baby girl. She was glowing all  9 months of her pregnancy. She and her husband were showered with gifts from friends and family that were just as happy as they were to welcome their baby. With professional, responsible, loving, amazing, Christian parents she is sure to have a great life.
Meet Joy....

Around the same time another baby was born thousands of miles away. His birth day was a quite different. First of all his mother lived in the dump community in Guatemala City, Guatemala so there's no telling where he was even born. He could have been born in the hospital....or not. Second of all his mom did not give him a name. She must not have wanted him very much since she hadn't even given him a name. He is just as beautiful as Joy. Meet _________.

I met Joy just six days before I left for Guatemala when she was one day old. I asked her parents to let me babysit and was overwhelmed with JOY for this couple who had been praying for a baby for years. Eight days later I held baby ___________. I don't know what his birthday is, what his weight was, etc but I know that he was not an accident. God had planned his birth just as he had planned Joy's.

As I looked down at his precious face I was so angery at his mom for not naming him so I "secretly" named him James. Studying the book of James this past fall was the driving force behind me going on this trip so it only made sense for that to be his name. When I gave baby "James" back to his mom I asked God to please protect this baby. Growing up in a dump is hard enough but having a mother that doesn't even love you enough to name you...well that's just a recipe for disaster.

Please pray for both of these precious gifts from God and for their families. Pray for James' survival and that his mother will come to know Jesus and will learn to love and care for her two boys (more on her other son later).
