Not So Radical Sunday......

My weakness isn’t shoes, jewelry, home furnishings, or even trendy clothes; I like “gadgets.” I especially like having the latest phones. T-Mobile only lets you upgrade every 2 years but I prefer to have a new phone every year. I am technically not eligible for an upgrade until this coming August (2 year mark) but for some reason when I logged in it said I was eligible now.
So, after church Sunday I went to T-Mobile and got my new phone. Did I NEED a new phone? No. Am I a happy camper and did I get a great price and get to make payments for 4 months interest free? Yes. Seriously though, if I had decided at the beginning of the year that as part of the Radical Experiment I wouldn’t get a new phone this year I would have been able to resist the temptation, but I since I didn’t there was no holding back.

So, I am making the decision now that I will not purchase any bathing suits this year. I LOVE buying bathing suits for some reason. I have a ton of them and I think last year alone I bought at least 3. What for? No clue. I just like them. I don’t like the way I look in them, of course, I just like buying them. I have enough for at least a 2 week vacation wearing a different one every day. So, this year I am not going to buy any. I don’t NEED any and I know I need to make sacrifices so since I didn’t sacrifice getting a new blackberry, it’s the least I can do. I did still have a little birthday money, too.

I think part of being “radical” for me is making the conscious decision when I make purchases as to whether or not I really need it or if providing for urgent spiritual and physical needs of others is more important. And when I can’t resist something then I have to decide to sacrifice something else instead.
